EXPERIENCE

2018 to date:     Lancashire Post - Local Democracy Reporter
                           WINNER:  Best Broadcaster, Local Democracy Reporting Service Awards, 2019

Providing detailed coverage of Lancashire County Council and other public sector bodies for the BBC Local Democracy Reporting Service.   Supplying copy and multimedia content to all registered outlets, including live two-ways for BBC local radio.         

2015 to 2018:    That's Lancashire Television - Broadcast Journalist and Political Correspondent                                   FINALIST:  O2 Media Awards (NW), Best Television Journalist, 2018 & 2017
                           FINALIST:  Royal Television Society Awards (NW), Best Regional Story, 2016

Produced and presented news and feature packages for local television service.   Regularly delivered off-diary exclusives, including an investigation into the cost of funding academy schools (nominated for the above RTS North West award) and the deadlock over devolution in Lancashire.

Specialised as a political correspondent, with responsibility for launching new local government service and associated website.   Regularly presented live flagship news programme and hosted and produced political debates. 

Also, reporter for a trial of the BBC's Local Democracy Reporting Service. 

2015:                 ITV Yorkshire - Freelance Production Journalist
Generated exclusive, fully-formed story for flagship Calendar programme, revealing bureaucratic delays in care experienced by a teenage ME patient.

2013:                 British Public Radio - Freelance Documentary Producer (click to hear)                                                                   GOLD:  Long-Form News category, British Public Radio Awards

Writer, producer and presenter of An Academic Debate? - an in-depth investigation into the finances and philosophy behind the government's academy schools programme.

Category judge Steve Kyte, former Deputy Controller of BBC Radio 5 Live, said:

"This was a terrific investigation.   It was a very well-researched and well-produced piece of journalism and a lot of time and effort had gone into explaining the background to the issues involved.  The production skills were outstanding and the use of audio and on-location recording really brought this story alive."

2010 to 2012:     BBC Radio Merseyside - Freelance Broadcast Journalist

Live, peak-time reporting, both on location and studio two-ways;  also scripted and edited pre-recorded craft packages.   Lead reporter for two of the biggest local stories of the time - the announcement of the first coalition government grant settlement for local authorities and the culmination of the legal battle in the takeover of Liverpool Football Club.   Reporter and producer for two-part special investigation into the use of the Private Finance Initiative to rebuild the Royal Liverpool Hospital.  

2011:                   BBC Radio Documentaries - Freelance Location Producer

Produced segment for BBC Radio 3 documentary, Three Centuries of the British Mosque.

2010:                   BBC Radio Manchester - Freelance Broadcast Journalist

Live programme inserts and pre-recorded package.

QUALIFICATIONS

2010:   MA Broadcast Journalism (2:1), University of Central Lancashire
BJTC-accredited course, including legal training and use of newsgathering and playout systems.   Researched, produced and presented 25-minute television documentary as part of dissertation.
